what type rear?
on a 7.5 or 7.625 10 bolt
3 series gear = 3 series carrier
2series gear= 2 series carrier

The axles are the same...housings are the same, I would never use a ring gear spacer, but i don't think they make it for a 7.5 anyway

if you do need to change gears I would go to a 3series....basiclly the 2 series is a thicker ring gear and wider pinion

the spacing is different to run those hi 3.23 and 2.77 2.73 gears

Richmond for sure sells 3-series "ratios" (ie: 3.73's) built for a 2-series carrier. The ring gear is 1/4" thicker than a standard 3-series gear (the mounting face for the ring gear is offset by 1/4" between 2 / 3 series carriers, that's the difference).

You "can" get a spacer and go that route, but it's not highly recommended . Like I say, I know that Richmond, for one, sells two versions of almost all the ratios from 3.42+ .
