th400 install: checking i have stuff right
th400 install: checking i have stuff right
ok, so i am going to install my turbo 400 pretty soon, just a few last minute questions so i can make sure i have everything needed
my flexplate needs to be an externally balanced one with 153 teeth because i am on the stock short block. my m6 starter should work with this, i believe
i can reuse my m6 crossmember if i would like, although it seems to me that many have switched the the b and m crossmember because they thought the stock crossmember would flex. if this is incorrect please correct.
for my driveshaft i just need the measurment and take my driveshaft to a shop with a slip yoke so they can weld it in and shorten the driveshaft.
as for the whole vss thing, i really am not worried about how fast i am going (track only car) so i wasn't even planning on touching it, at least not anytime soon.
as for a shifter, this is where i am stuck. there seem to be the ratchet shifters that you just smack and they shift, and then the positive detente ones. i think it would be a lot cooler to just pull the shifter back pretty hard, but whatever is best for dragracing i will use. suggestions are certainly needed, i have a reverse pattern manual valve body in my th400. I have been trying to see some peoples shifters in my area, but so far i have failed miserably.
torque converter: seems to me like the th350 and the th400 can swap torque converters?
one of my biggest questions is what e.t do you need to run to require tranny shield and flex plate shields? right now my goal is to just get the thing installed and put a tci fleplate shield on it, then later on put a jw ultra bell on it later on. i do not know when the tranny shield is needed
this is what i got so far, let me know where i have messed up and your opinions on shifters and such.

Yes.

I have my M6 cross-member, but its been reinforced quite a bit.

Sounds like a plan, as long as your present DS is up to the task.

I have the B&M Pro-Ratchet in the stock M6 console. Its fairly stealthy, and fun to drive. It's good for me, but a lot of the TH400 owners use the Cheetah and like it better.

I don't know

I have the JW Ultra-Bell and a TCI aluminum case shield. Flex-plate shield, and SFI-rated flex-plate is required under 10.00 or over 135MPH, tranny case shield under 11.00 or over 135MPH, at least in NHRA.
Yes.

I used the jegs 50153 flexplate=sfi approved
Cheetah shifter...I have a forward pattern, If you veer need to get to "n" quick...I never liked reverse paterns
Get a new DS made....they aren't that much. Get a DS LOOP also if you don't have one
The m-6 crossmember will work but you have to elongate the slot a little.....also get a energy suspension mount
I would get 1350 slip yoke and u-joints if it is a drag car

hey, thanks a lot! you guys defintely made stuff a lot clearer for me, and reinforced that i will not put this thing in backwards, lol.
yeah, it is a drag only car, already have a poly mount. i was looking at that b and m pro stick, but i think i have been swayed to the cheetah. i have a driveshaft loop that mounts where that one crossmember is.
injuneer's, yours certainly looks like is has had a bit of work there. maybe i will just take mine to my buddy's place and have him do some reinforcing to it rather than dish out 180 for the b and m one.
i guess according to nhra i would not need a flex plate shield immdeiately, but after reading some of the stuff i read about bleeding feet and such, i think its probably a good idea until i get an ultra bell
