th400 or 4l60e

I have a turbo set with close to a 1000 hp at the wheels with a t56... I want to switch to a auto but hate the idea of turning 3k at 55 mph, but i know the th400 will handle that kind of power, what are my options? can a 4l80e can used if it is manually shifted or will it have to have a stand alone tcm? Or can a 4l60e stand up to 1000 hp

Manual valve body TH400 with a Gear Vendors (0.78:1) overdrive helps. The GV will handle 1,000HP.

The gear vendors is a great idea. I would run the 4l80e. With either one it would be thousand times better than the 4l60e.

But....................if you don't want that 3000rpm at 55mph then you'll need overdrive. Which means 4l80e, 6l80e, or as Injuneer said a th400 + a GearVendors OD unit.
There is NO cheap reliable way to way to get 1000hp from the motor to the wheels and have OD too.

If I had to pay full price for the GV, I wouldn't have bought it. I got it "slightly" used (by George Baxter in his 1,125HP 30th SS convertible) for about 1/2 original cost.

The GV also comes with a hefty weight penalty. I'd guess it weighs about 40-50#. I should have weighed it first. Will require a very short DS, and a custom DS loop. In my case, it eliminated the space for my previous Y-pipe, forcing me to run a new dual exhaust.
