Th200-4r ????
Th200-4r ????
Im just wondering if anyone else has considered it as an alternate for the 4L60s. Ive seen some BIG HP cars run em and i think theres a company that gaurentess em behind a 700hp engine. I have a descently built one in the garage and am wondering how hard it would be to adapt to work in the F-Body. They make a kit to hookup the torque arm to the floor pans, and the 200-4R is the same length as a th-350 from bellhousing to crossmember mounting point. Shouldnt be too hard to find a crossmember to work with it. You gotta figure theres tons of grand antionals running sick times on these trans's so theres gotta be something to em right??? Thye have a better gear spread then the 700-r4 trans also.
Just wondering what anyone thinks of this???

Re: Th200-4r ????
i wish i had a idea how to make that work.did the 93s have a kickdown if so no promb. but to get the speedo work i have no idea. it would cheaper then a 4l80. the stand alone comp. for them is 1g thats alot plus 2,500 for the trans thats alot . but is cheaper then building a4l60 4 times in 1 1/2yrs plus down time
I also would like to know how to make this work and how well it works.

Re: Th200-4r ????
I know youd loose the electronic control (oh god what a loss
) and would have to hook up a kickdown cable but that shouldnt be too hard at all. I could put in a ratchet shifter and run the gears on my own then safely too. The trans is quite a bit cheaper to build up to hold big power compared to a 4L60, like ive said ive seen em gaurenteed up to 600 hp for about 2000 shipped to you. Nobody has any other input on this? I think monday im gonna call up a couple of the places that build these trans's and see what they think.

Re: Th200-4r ????
Also youd probably have to get a torque arm that mounts to the chassis not the tail of the trans, which i was gonan do anyway. There may be a way to hook it up to the trans though i dunno?
Re: Th200-4r ????
200-4R has a 2.54 low gear 1.54 2nd 1.00 3rd and .67 4th. it will require a TV cable. and tcc wiring. manual linkage should be the same as
700-R4/4L60/4L60E to 1994. Fab a crossmember and lengthen your driveshaft. your in business. Some say the 200-4R will take more H/P and Torque than the 700. GM engineers opted for the 200 in the grand national for a reason. input shaft is the weak spot. hope this helps.

Re: Th200-4r ????
Thanx, ya i was gonna talk to art carr and i think theres 2 more places thats pecialize in the 200 4r's. Im just worried about all these stories of built 4L60s blowing up, and i already have a descently built 200 in the garage and it should be cheaper in the long run for me i think. I was already gonna run a chassis mounted torque arm and im not worried about a crossmember i know a few people taht could hlp me build one of those. Just wondering if it could hold up to more abuse really. 4L60s deffinatly not known for that and id really rather not give up my overdrive.
Re: Th200-4r ????
There are 2004R's that can be built to take some HP, but are you sure that is what you need? The 700R4/4L60E can be built to take quite a lot in terms of abuse. Check out my units that run 11's & 10's. As for Art Carr, check out his reputation before spending a dime on his units. There are a couple of places that specialize in the 2004R. Call Bruce Toole at Performance Transmissions in Sacramento, California. He specializes in TH2004R's.
