Testify! 3.73 Gears

This is just a thread for the browsers with doubt of this ratio and people thinking about their next mod. All im doing is askin people who have the gears to post what brand they have, why they bought them, and what a change they made on the car (for better or worse). Just like the thread says, testify on your 3.73 gears!

For me personally, they made a "NIGHT and DAY" difference. Its that simple, in my stock pcm tuned A4 trans, 3rd gear was a slight and slow pull for me, after my header installation i lost some of my torque and low end yet gained some hp and top end pull. The next modification HAD to be the gears for me, Richmond was a popular and well known brand, they were my choice of many (be weary as you can have 1 of 2 carriers in your rear). Now the pull is unbelievable, my 3rd gear is pulling like my 2nd gear used to. For the price :: performance ratio of the gears, and average installation cost, its almost an unbeatable mod. All in all, by sacraficing some top speed and a little gas mileage, your accelleration will change drastically. Stop thinking about buying the gears, go out right now and purchase them!

I noticed a 1000% differance between 2.73s and 3.42s. Between 3.42s and 3.73s, not much at all. I had Strange 3.73s which sucked ***, I now have an unknown brand due to some local shytehead installer taking advantage of me.

Even 2.73s to 3.23s is HUGE. My bros stock 3.23 car will rape me from a roll. I have 2.73s... but a 3.42 rear ready to go in.

I have 3.73's from ??? (I think Jegs), the reason I went with them was the damn good price my buddy sold then to me for, but I was planing on going to 4.10's...

I am satisfied with them, but they are not optimal for my setup. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a good performing street car, but in my case I wanted the most out of it, and think I may still step up to 4.10's next season...

I just put 3.73's in mine and so far I love them. They are richmonds and they have no whine that I can notice. As soon as i left the shop i noticed the difference and loved it. I havent really gotten on it since ive only put 10 miles on it since i got them in. I was going to go with motive gears but i heard that you need a spacer to run them in a two series carrier but with the richmonds you dont.

my richmonds do make a small whining noise which is apparently common, its not very loud and you have to have all windows rolled up, no air blowing, and one tuned ear to notice the sound, just as far as performance wise, the gears are just about perfect for a street car (in my oppinion).

How much of diff in 1/8 mile times and gas mileage would there be in going from 3.23s to 3.73s?

as soon as i find out, i will let you know on that one because the local drag strip (15 mins away) is only an 1/8 mile track and gas mileage is a small concern of mine as well, so when i have some results of my own, i will let you know

I'm planning on going with 3.73s when I upgrade to a Dana 60 rear end and install a Procharger.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to tell the difference, but I'm not sure how much of it will be from the gears.

wow...saturday night i raced a supercharged '97 Trans Am and spanked him by about 3 car lengths, got the jump and held it, the more i drive it, the more i love the gears, and gas mileage for me is close to the same as it was before
