Tell me about the converter that worked great or awful on your daily driver

It'll be a little while yet before I have my engine assembled but I figured some of you dudes might be able to help me out with some feedback on your torque converter experiences. I'll have a stout midrange type 383 with ported stock heads and 11:1 compression and I'm currently leaning towards a CC 466 cam (218 deg. int. / 224 deg. exhaust duration and lift up around .565 with LSA of 113). Rear end is the stock 3.23 I believe.
Haven't messed with many converters so I'm kind of in the dark here. I want a converter that will be noticeably quicker out of the hole than a stocker but have no use for a converter that takes 1/2 throttle to ease away from a red light. Very civil daily driving manners are the primary requirement.
From what little I've been able to find in the archives I'm leaning toward a converter with a stall range somewhere in the range of 2400 to 2800. Any descriptions on how converters in this range behave around town and on the highway would be much appreciated.
Regards, Michael

So how does it drive on the street, say in traffic lights compared to your stock converter?

a good 2800 lockup stall converter will almost feel exactly like a regular stocker, well until you go WOT then you know its there. I'd say you should get a 2800-3200. With your setup, I'd say 3200 for sure. If you get a nice one, you won't notice much of a difference at all just driving normally around town. Dont go cheap on it though, or you'll regret it

what brands and specification would you recomend, i have almost the same engine setup, well pretty close, ive got a 2200 that was on it before i had the engine built, i know i need something bigger but tc's are something i never really figured out, so 3200 for a street car, i still dont understand exactly what they do and how they do it, any explanations on how to pick out the one for your car?
