Exclamation Tech info for replacing my Input Sprag in a 700r4

OK, I'm diving in. What I need to know, and from what I have read over the past 3 weeks, the only pics and descriptions of rebuilding a trasnsmission starts with removing the valve body, all the pistons, etc before you even get to the pump.

What I need to know, is if I am only replacing the input sprag assebmly and over run clutches can I get the input drum out by only removing the pump, not the bands or pistons? Then I can get to what I need once its out its just getting it out while removing the least amout of other stuff.

Thanks

Yes it s a little agravating but heres how ,
1-remove pan
2-remove filter
3-remove lockup solenoid

STAND TRANS IN AND UPRIGHT POSITION SUPPORTED

4-Remove 2-4 servo snap ring and servo assembly from side of case
5-Remove pump bolts
5-using a medium screw driver pry gently up on the pump at the TCC SOLENOID position and the oposite side of the case back and forth till pump clears oring then remove pump.
6-Using a larger driver or med mpry bar between case and band pry the band and input assemblies toward the bell enough to clear the band pin.
7-Once cleared grab input shaft and pull straight up .

Just do reverse for reintsallation and be sure you get band back on band lug . and use petrolium jelly to hold washer and pump gasket in place during installtion of pump

Hope this helps

Thanks, alot, I was trying to keep the pan on but if I have to take the tcc solinoid out anyway I guess I will just pull the VB, its easy anyway, that way I can just remove the band pin. Oh well, its like an hour more work but no big deal, thanks alot for the reply, wish me luck. Im in germany and if anything goes wrong Im at the mercy of the U S postal service.

thanks alot, everything went great getting the input drum out, I found the 2 overrun clutchs burned to crap. YES. That is the best, atleast I found what was wrong If i didn't man.....anyhway I could not for the life of me get the low reverse drum back in with the band pin in so I had to remove the VB and pin anyway after all that. Thanks a lot for the help What would you suggest when running it for the first time to get everythink up to pressure, Idle with tires spinning thourh all the gears for a spacific amont of time? Ill tell you how it goes.

Thanks again

Exclamation

BIg problems, I got everything back together and in the car. the Wheels will not move in Manual 1st and Reverse. If I accelerate it moves I also still do not have engine braking in 2nd or Drive. The clutches were burned. I replaced the inputsprag assym with a new one with a borg warner sprag. Did I put it in backards? it rotated the same direction as the old one.Looking from above with the smaller set of teeth down I can rotate the upper larger set clockwise, this is the same way as in the car. I do not know what to do. I hope it is easy as a servo or something in the valve body. HELP

All I did was pull the input assy, and get down to the input sprag and over run clutches and replace them and reassy in order, I did replace the seal on the servo, and pump gasket, could I have jammed the forward cluthces, they looked good so I just dropped them back in in the same order. But the 1st and reverse problem is new, so its something Idid. Why would the forward cluthces not disengage and overrun not engage

ok gotta go in again, I have access to a hyd press so I believe I do not need a spring compressor for reinstall, I need to know where to inspect for this overrun clutch problem, I still have 1st and reverse, I dont want to just order a new overrun piston but I will if neccesary. Once I get this thing back together is there a way I can test for piston apply with the input drum out. with air for instance, where and how much do I need to apply and what should a good result be on testing.
