Takes awhile to shift out of 1st at WOT...

Lately I have had this problem (but not everytime that i am at WOT) where it travels fine throughout the entire power band in 1st, and when it hits the redline... it sounds like air sucking in only, no valvetrain or exhaust noise and doesnt want to shift until I let off the gas. The tach keeps traveling higher into the redline area but feels like Im not going anywhere. When it does finally shift it shifts very firm and crisp still, no slipping. Also with normal everyday driving, it shifts great! 1-2 is really firm and crisp. I have a trans temp gauge that is reading pretty cool most of the time... around 160-170, unless Im sitting in traffic, and even then it has never gotten higher than ~185.

Sorry it is really hard to explain... hope I did a good job.

What im getting at here is that, could this just be a shift point problem? Or is this the trans telling me it is on its way out? FYI it only has 68k on the motor and trans and shifts great normally.

We hear this complaint alot before we build a customers transmission. It's usually caused by the 2-4 band not coming on quick enough. Most times a simple shift kit won't solve this problem because there are several internal modifications that need to be made to increase holding power, apply force, and pressure.

Is this a problem that will destroy my trans? Or is it just some sort of glitch with the trans that is ok until it is ready to be rebuilt?

Frank is right, a shift kit won't help.

I had this exact same problem with my car, and made me run very slow 1/4 times. I thought it was my valvetrain, so i did roller rockers and such, but still does it. Now I have even bigger problems just wanting for it to blow then CPT is getting it. Hey Frank do you usually stock a couple cores? What do you usually charge for a core on a 4L60E? I will probably want to order one before this one goes out. Soon as I get some $$$ around this summer---probably be my winter project.

If this trans is going to go soon, Id like to know, Im not really sure I can afford a trans overhaul in the near future.

I'm still driving mine. I believe my overrun clutches are fried also but she still gets me down the road really well. Just doesn't lead to good 1/4 times.

I wouldnt know about 1/4 times, I havent ran my car in over a year. I havent done anything performance wise in awhile. Just doing cosmetic stuff lately.

I want to run it again this summer, but it kinda scares me when it does that. It doesnt do it in any other gears, just the 1->2 shift...
