t56 removal question to replace clutch

were in the process of taking out the t56 in my buddy's formula. do we have to unbolt the bellhousing deal from the engine or can we unbolt the tranny itself from the bellhousing? and leave it bolted to the engine? thanx,
ryan

Re: t56 removal question to replace clutch

if your not planning on replacing the clutch components, then just leave the bellhousing on the engine

It's a LOT easier to leave the BH on the engine, unbolt the trans form the BH, then unbolt the BH. THere are some secret pry spots on the BH to get it out. One on pass side and one on drivers side. Little cutouts. You can sqease (sp?) a small flathead in there.

Remove the tranny, then the bell housing. Don't forget to release the clutch fork from the throw-out bearing.
