t56 rebuild difficulty
t56 rebuild difficulty
Can you guys give me an idea on the difficulty of a rebuild on one of these?
I have a hyd press available and have rebuilt a couple of manuals before
[muncie m-21 and a ford truck 3 spd]
thanks, Matt

Re: t56 rebuild difficulty
PM or email "Injuneer" on this board for a T56 rebuild manual in pdf. format. I have it and it's a good place to start. After reading through it a million times, it doesn't seem very hard to me as long as you have all the right tools and make sure all your clearances are within range. You'll especially need a long gear puller since the gears are on fairly long shafts. A feeler gauge will be useful too. The only thing i see as "hard" will be replacing the bearings and bushings, but since you have a hyd. press it should be a little easier... just make sure you set them to the original depths in the bores.
I'll be taking on this challenge in the coming months with mine. I already took off the tailhousing and looked at the 5/6 and reverse gears/syncros/bearings. It's a lot of parts so make sure you keep them organized and make notes along the way.
