T56 questions....what part is this (pics inside)
picked up a LT1 T56 for dirt cheap, but due to some misshandling the last owner broke a piece on it. It's a metal sleeve that goes around the input shaft and I believe the TOB slides onto the sleeve. anyone know the name of the part or part number? Also does anyone know how far I have to tear into it to replace it. I'm waiting for a rebuild manual to arrive, so I haven't removed any bolts yet, just in case.

Here is your free service manual: http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#t56
Looks like it might be part of the transmission adapter casing.

That part is only available now with the front adapter plate. That part (bearing guide tube) use to be sold seperate when Borg Warner was still selling the parts. Now that Tremec sells the T56 parts they combine parts like this together with larger parts. Like the adapter plate.
Anyway,
I do know I guy that did have 3 of these "bearing guide tubes" left about 2 months ago though. If you want the guys number pm me. I bought one for like $15 from him. Either way you go, buying just a guide tube or an adapter plate with the guide tube you still have to do a COMPLETE teardown. The transmission assembly step 1 starts with the front adapter plate and the guide tube gets pressed in from the inside. It should not come apart from the part that is pressed in like your has.
