T56 Problem
T56 Problem
Hi all !
2 days ago i bought a 2001 ss with the 6 speed and 66000 Miles.
now the problem is : i can only shift in 2.gear when the car stands or with max ~12 miles speed, otherwise i can only shift fom 1. to 3.or 4. ,also from 3,4,5,i can not shift back in 2.gear
when the car stands i can shift from 1.to 2.,also i can drive away with 2.
so is this the "shift skip " ? no or ? its a mechanical problem with the 2.gear or clutch ? i have now eliminatet the shift skip, but nothing happend, also no lights comming (SES ore Skip shift)
thanks for some ideas and greets from Austria/Vienna

Yes, that is the function of "skip shift"... at low RPM and low/moderate throttle position, it blocks 2nd gear, forcing you to shift too a higher gear. The purpose is to improve fuel mileage. GM seemed to feel you would choose 4th gear when 2nd gear was blocked.
How did you "eliminate" the skip shift? If it was deleted by changing the activation parameters in the computer, it won't light the "skip shift" light, or set a code. If you eliminated it by installing a "skip shift eliminator" (or 2 kOhm resistor), you will not get a code or SES light, but you should still get the "skip shift" light on the dash.

thx Injuneer !
But when you speed up the 1.gear to 5000 rpm ore higher , it should be possible to shift in 2.gear or not ?
i have only removed the little plug from the solenoid (i see it on a foto and know witch one) or should i remove the complete solenoid ?
thx Robert

You can't remove the solenoid... it will leave a hole in the side of the tranny. You unplug the solenoid harness connector, and push a 2 kOhm resistor into the two contacts in the harness connector, and tape it up, tie it up, out of the way. But if you do it that way, the skip shift light will continue to function. I don't even have a T56 in my 94 Formula any more, but the skip shift light still comes on.
If you pulled the harness connector off, and just let it hang, you should get a code and an SES light. Was the "skip shift" light coming on BEFORE you unplugged the harness connector? Does your SES light come on briefly when you turn the ignition key to "on"? If not, is it possible someone has pulled the bulbs or cut the wire for the SES light and the skip shift light?
Yes, to override the skip shift function, you just need to use a lot more throttle in 1st gear. It should only function at low/moderate throttle.
