T56 is out the TH400 is in!

Well I yanked my t56 and put in a th400 with TBrake. I never got a full pass with the t56 in the car always breaking something.

I have two qeustions

How do I get the spedometer working with my TH400?

How did you guys route your cooler lines? I have the canton pan with kickouts so I know I will have to get pretty creative with the cooler lines just hoping for some advice and maybe even PICS.

Thanks

Jeff

Might want to PM Rich Krause or do a search....I believe he's discussed in detail his TH400 swap.

Where did you get your TH400? How much did it set you back? Thanks in advance.

You will need a reluctor and sensor, I can find the pn's later if no one else posts them but I am sure a search will also turn them up. I had a bit of trouble getting the speedo to read correcly and eventually reprogrammed using Tunercat, which has the ability to change more of the parameter related to the VSS than LT1_Edit. A board member also sent me a file which helped. It won't help you, 'cause it's OBD1.

IOW, you install a reluctor and sensor in the tranny, make the correct electrical connection so that the PCM is getting a VSS signal, and reprogram the PCM if it is not reading correctly. Maybe I ended up with the wrong reluctor and that's why I needed to reprogram?

As far as the lines go, it depends where your cooler is mounted, so I really don't understand the question?

I hope you are happy with your swap. I am still not sure I did the right thing and may switch back.

I'm using an OBD1 computer so that file would be a great help if you could send it.

I just called for a qoute on those parts the total is almost $250! I don't care that much about my speed does the computer? I just need to know if the car will run normal without the damn speedo working.

I was really just hoping someone had some pics of the cooler install and routing I plan to try and mount it in front of the radiator.

Thanks
Jeff

I will look later (at home) for the file. My cooler is not in front of the radiator, sorry.

My setup ...

1) Coan Racing Comp. Class TH400 ... $998
2) 3200 stall converter ... $469
3) Spohn Torque Arm ... $375
4) Spohn Driveshaft ... $325
5) B&M Hammer shifter ... $199

You add it up ... though I sold my previous Vigilante converter for $500 and 4L60 core for $200

Still looking for the file, I think it's on the other computer. Be patient and I will find it. You can spend more. My tranny was a lot more expensive, probably overkill. Billet this, aluminum that, etc. But the point is to make it bulletproof, right?

Sense you have a M6 computer it wont care what your speed is. Only the A4s care becasue they need know when to shift the tranny. I found that the 700R4 to TH400 swap kit from summit works with a 4th gen torque so you don't need to buy a new torque arm.

I am in the swap just under $2,000 with a built tranny(to handle 700HP) new drive shaft, 3400 anti ballon stall, B&M 3 speed plate, inline cooler, lines, torque arm bracket, M6 crossmember.

I am not going to hook the speedo up right now because the VSS I found for the conversion was $186, and that puts me over budget.

I can't wait to get the car all done, right now I am taking out all the H/AC/V and air bags.

Good luck.

I dont know how they did this but I believe Atlanta Chassis Dyno used the front ABS sensor for the speedometer. The guy I bought my car from said that the car would not run right if the computer did not read a speed. I dont know about that.

About the cooler lines. I have a TH-350 and used the push lock Aeroquip line. I took off the fittings that the the hard line screws into and put an AN fitting in the trans. Then I ran the hose around the frame to the front. I hate those hard lines. They always leak on me.
