T56 Limits

When would you build up the T56 so it doesn't go kaboom? I am going with a 383 LE2 setup and like a 200 shot of nitrous? Maybe 150... Wanna know if the tranny will split.

Re: T56 Limits

you should be fine on motor. generally u can run high numbers at a stock t-56. u will buren up stock synchros pretty fast, but the tranny should hold as long as you don't go 5k dropping it on slicks. I've seen some bummed guys after that trial. u might want to consider the rebuild with hi-po parts before you throw nitrous at it

Re: T56 Limits

PLEASE follow the board guidelines on posting threads to the CORRECT forum. I've spent most of my morning moving threads off LT1 ENGINE Tech.... I don't have any time to help anyone any more.

TIA for your full cooperation. Moving to "Drivetrain".

Re: T56 Limits

So on the motor I should be alright... but if I spray EVEN after the launch the tranny's synchros would have problems?

Sorry man... I didn't really think about it. Won't Happen again

Re: T56 Limits

I'm still running my stock T56 after 145,000 miles. The car has about 50 passes down the quarter mile over the years. I think T56 failures are probably due more to speed shifting than anything else. Some of the very high HP guys have twisted the splines on the output shaft but I don't think it's a common experience. If you haven't already beefed up the rest of your drivetrain, I think you'll have more problems with your rear axle, driveshaft and clutch before the T56 goes.

Re: T56 Limits

At the 600rwhp mark I have twisted an output shaft and broken a trans yoke. All on slicks. For the record, I had D&D do the 30 spline upgrade and used a mark williams billet yoke they rate to 750 and never had another problem with that combo. Current power level is around 900rwhp so I had G-Force go through it and do a complete upgrade to 9610 alloy gears and shafts with all the bells and whistles. This ones supposed to be good for 1200+.

Re: T56 Limits

hmm okay.. Do you know; do they sell all transmission's parts necessary to swapping A4 to T56 ?? I want a viper specs T56 with every parts which are necessary.. I can't get the all related parts one by one..
BTW: My engine have ~550bhp with 200hp nitrous.. Will viper specs T56 will be enough to handle this hp?? G-force are great company ,but I think its too much for my car and too much $$$

Viper specs basically means 30 spline output shaft. The D&D unit we had was an F-car T56 setup for an LT1 that had the viper shaft installed. Or you can buy the kit which I believe is around $800 and install it yourself. Our engine last year made about 525 on the motor with another 250 of spray. I always hit the jug on the last yellow and left with it. The trans never had an issue. I think you'll be fine. Do youself a huge favor and throw the cast spicer 30 spline yoke they give you on the shelf and buy the Mark Williams billet piece. It's the one for a Chrysler torqueflite. It has the same spline count and dimensions. I twisted the spicer one into a pretzel.

Re: T56 Limits

I won't be launching with all the power, but shifting hard with it. Easy out of the hole then punching it with spray... on et streets
