T56 goes boom???

Today I thought my T56 finally crapped out!

Dropped the clutch pulling out in traffic, hear a pop noise and then the shifter is moving all over the place.

Turns out the transmission mount snapped and the pop was the transmission hitting the underside of the car.

I went to AdvanceAuto, bought a mount for $8 and replaced it myself in 20 minutes. (I was impressed considering I'm just getting into cars.)

I was dang proud that my Camaro Z28 is still running so strong after 180,000 miles!!!!!

I hope it lasts as long as your first one.

My buddies car was breaking them every few thousand miles, but its not a DD and when he drives it he gives it hell. It was an A4 car at the time too.

I hope you have better luck, but if not he bought a poly-urethane one and its holding up much better. We'll see how it does with the 6 speed now I guess. Just got it in and running yesterday.

What brand did you get? I have an Energy Suspension mount and it is great.

since you already went and bought one from the autoparts store you may want to go to the dealership or go to www.paceparts.com and get an Ls1 mount they are much stronger,or you can get the energy suspension polyeurothane mount from autozone or mail order.
the one you just bought will break soon, regular driving a year the way we drive a few months tops...
welcome to the f- body world, you will have much fun!

I broke the 5th and 6th gear cog on my T56 on the freeway coming home from a party. I went to downshift from 6th to 5th normally and it went pop. I had to baby the car home in 1-4th gear. Guys at the trans shop told me that it was a freak deal, and was a defect in the metal. I have always heard that the T56 is a good solid transmission.

I blew a seal out on mine on the turnpike. Long story short, even a T56 doesn't last long at 80+ MPH with zero ATF in it.

Not one of my finer moments. But on the plus side of things, I have beating the **** out of it since I repaired it, and it keeps on taking it.

Slammed my T56 into 4th one time and fooked up my 3-4 fork (so I thought). Wierdest thing, 5 miles later and about 30 gear shifts later, it went back to normal never to come back as a problem again. That was 30K miles ago.

I wedged a gear up in the casing. I guess the guy that rebuilt it said he has never seen anything that bad before. It was stuck in third til I finally got it in fourth...then it wouldn't come out at all...so I limped it home if fourth...which contributed to the death of my clutch
