T56 almost impossible to go into 6th gear
T56 almost impossible to go into 6th gear
When I try to put it in 6th with the clutch in it grinds and when I let the cluch out in grinds worst. Then sometime if you pull it doen real hard it grabs and it's fine, but it does it randomly. It's driving me nuts! It's does all kinds of wierd grinding, wining, popping sounds when you try it put it in 6th. Sometimes if you put in 6th and let of the clutch in will grind for a second or two then catch the gear while the clutch it already engaged! This can't be good....
Today it started to make a grinding noise for a second when on the way to 5th, but 5th still engages fine.

Re: T56 almost impossible to go into 6th gear
That's what I'm afraid of. If you put it down in the 6th position it sits real loose and just shake back and forth. Give it gas and if make a sharp almost plastic like rapid grinding which gets worse and faster with RPM. I have to pull it down really hard and toward me to get it to go into gear finally.

Oh, and when I try double clutching it will not go into 6th at all! You have to hold the clutch in and shift to another gear beside 5th then put it in 6th. Still, it doesn't work.

That is the best help you're going to find, anywhere.

Re: T56 almost impossible to go into 6th gear
The transmission shifted OK before I broke the transmission mount. Put a NAPA mount on it but it's still real wobbly. Should I try a firm Poly to keep the tranny raised to the correct height?
Re: T56 almost impossible to go into 6th gear
Let's back up here for a minute.
The tranny guy -- did he just say "it needs a rebuild", or did he actually tell you what was wrong? If he didn't actually tell you what was wrong, go find out before we continue.
Once you have that information, start asking around. There are a couple supporting vendors of this site that specialize in T56 transmissions and who may be able to help you. As I have never had any trouble with my T56, I can't give you any specific information.
And before you start thinking about swapping in an A4, consider what your reasons were when you originally sought out a relatively rare M6 in the first place.

Take it to the guy you trust and have him check it out. I doubt he'll stick with his recommendation for a firmer mount.

I think I'm going to try the mount as see if that helps.
