t56 to a4
Hi guys , iown a 1995 A4 z28and a 1996T 56 z28,problem is wife wishes to drive convertible 96 buts is manual ,how hard is it to switch trannys and keep all Happy Thanks for any help
Re: t56 to a4
I am looking to go from a A4 to a M6. M6's are harder to find and more expensive. Anyway, it is suppose to be a pretty easy to swap from what I have read here. Someone even has a how-to guide with picture on the net. Sorry I do not have the website handy.
Like I said, you will come out ahead money wise going to an auto. The conversion to a manual is more popular and so they go for more used than the autos do. Their are many here that will offer to do tranny swap with you, including myself. I will not be back in the states for 6wks though.
Good luck.

Re: t56 to a4
There are a few posts on here that have asked this question before. Do a search for m6 swap. Im not sure what all you will need new but getting the PCM's flashed for the different transmissions is something that will need to be done. It will be simple as you will have one complete m6 car and one complete a4 car so you wont be looking everywhere for a complete swap. Most posts that i have read people have done the swap in a weekend. Good luck!
Re: t56 to a4
its extremely easy for you since you are litterally just switching tranny's
the difficult part is cutting the hole for the clutch master and the shifter, and then patching up the holes in the other car

Re: t56 to a4
The mechanical part is easy. I agree the hardest part is cutting the holes and patching the other ones. I converted my 94 to a t56 and back to an auto. With a mig welder it's not to hard to patch the holes. That said if I was you I would sell the 96 and buy an auto car instead of converting. You will probably come out money ahead and it would be a lot less work.
You will also have a problem with the wiring for the auto on the 96. Your 95 harness won't work so you would need to find a 96 auto harness and probably have to rework some other wiring to have a neutral saftey switch and reverse lights. Doesn't seem worth it to me.
