T-56 something weird happened
Ok first off i was just driving and it did this. i was going to the gas station and i felt like a "clunk" (not to loud but not to quite) and next thing you know i can't shift into any gear. i finally got it to shift and drive far enough to pull into the gas station (about 100 ft coasted most of the way) but after that it wouldnt move in any gear. it will run but acts as if the clutch is engaged and wants to kill itself. softly it doesnt like jurk the car forward or nothin just idles for a couple of seceonds and kills itself. Motor is a fresh rebuild. and motor sounds fine when in neautral with the clutch engaged. it has to be something n the tranny or clutch assembly somewhere. Just replaced clutch with spec stage two+ and ran fine fr a while. this came out of nowhere. Any input, suggestions, or ideas would be great. thanks guys.
The clutch pedal feels fine and the car acts fine when the clutch is engaged but when the clutch is let out and the car is in neutral it shuts off as if someone killed the car.It doesnt jump or nothin it just simply "dies". I can shift the gears when the car is off BUT WHEN I START IT UP IT WONT LET ME INTO ANY GEARS UNLESS I SHIFT THE PATTERN AND GET LUCKY AND MAKE IT INTO A GEAR. But i cant move nowhere it feels like something is locked up almost.
ive read that the t56's have a bad habit of bending the 3-4 shift fork. just a thought but could it possibly be jammed in 2 gears at the same time? my old 71 ss had an m21..(originally equipped with an m20 wide but i swapped it) that actually jammed in 2 gears at the same time...didnt realize it when it happened i was sitting in front of my buddy house (luckily) until i went to take off and just killed the motor on the spot, it would start right back up only to get murdered again when i let out the clutch....ended up being the shifter broke and stuffed it into 2 gears locking the trans....didnt hurt anything and just cost me a new shifter and arms and bushings since i was in there. Well if its possible to jam the t56 into 2 gears at once from a bent/broke fork maybe thats your problem, maybe thats why it idles and runs fine until you put it into "gear" and let out the clutch...if the trans is locked it'll just kill the motor nice and gently...something to think about or maybe even check out
If im wrong about anything you guys can smack me around

No, not possible to jam the T56 into two gears. The Muncie trannies had a different linkage style. But the most common problem aside from destroying the synchro rings is bending the 3-4 shift fork. A lot of rebuilders will replace it with a stronger one. Hopefully your tranny isnt too tore up, good luck with it man.
I have torn a t-56 all the way down and put back together but its been a while. If your clutch feels normal and car runs with it in and dies with it out it is in your tranny ( you said car will coast.) The other question would be does the car move when the clutch is out and car is off. in other words will it coast or is it locking the wheels.
You could be stuck in 2 gears IF a shift fork or syncro broke leaving 1 gear engaged and whatever other gear you put it in would also be engaged. But if that were the case in nuetral the car would actually still be in whatever gear it is stuck on and no other. meaning the car would move with engine running and clutch out in nuetral (if its not stuck in 5th or 6th or maybe 4th) but also if this were the case the car would not coast in nuetral unless the clutch is in. Let me know I'm interested in what you find.
The t-56 isn't that bad to pull apart if you are a very organized person you could probably pull it apart yourself.

dude you hit that diagonosis directly on the head. how hard is to tear apart a tranny? i have stripped my motor to bare block and rebuilt it. Very simple im hoping the tranny is that easy too. any help or information on rebuilding the tranny. like steps and procedures or something. anything will help.
OK . JUST HAPPENED TO ME ... CLUTCH SPRING BROKE AND THE CLUTCH IS ACTING LIKE ITS ENGAGED WHEN ITS NOT.. JUST SPENT 700 ON MINE .. NOW I HAVE A BAD VIBRATION ON TAKE OFF. ANYONE KNOW THIS ? CHECK THAT FIRST MAN.. BUT EITHER WAY PULL THE TRANNY.. GOOD LUCK
