T-56 problem

Well I think I lost fifth and sixth gear today, but hopefully not. Whenever I put it into either of those gears it just makes a grinding sound. It never went into fifth very smoothly anyway. Can anyone confirm this? And if so is it just the synchros that need to be replaced or is there more? The car is a 95 z a4---->m6 conversion with full bolt-ons minus headers and 105,000 miles. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Re: T-56 problem

i read on here that there is a(1) synchro for the 5th and 6th gear, that would be my guess. might not be the hydraulics if it isnt happening to anyother gears. just my input
Thought i would also add that my 1st gear grinds when trying to downshift into 1st while moving and wont go in but when im stopped it sometimes just grinds a little and will go in. Can you put it into 5th or 6th while stopped with the car running? I am in no means a mechanic but this was just my experience and thought it might help.

Re: T-56 problem

yeah i can put it in both 5th and 6th while car is running sitting still or moving but if i release the clutch it just makes a grinding sound in those gears. i pulled the tranny and took it to a local shop so hopefully i will hear back from them later today. ill let you know what they say
