t-56 conversion wireing

Okay guys. Im right in the middle of A4 to T56 swap. My question is, wireing. Being that I have a 96 with a OBD 2, the cags wireing. If i dont wire it in. Will it throw a code? Also, once im done with the swap would i be able to drive it without reflashing my computer? Reason im asking is because I just moved to lancaster from fresno. My camaro is still in fresno. I was thnking of flashing the computer when after i drive the car here to lancaster.

Cool Re: t-56 conversion wireing

For the wiring, you don't have to wire up the cags. If you plan on driving the car without programming, the speedometer will be off and also the car will idle a little low. If I were you, I would either get the computer flashed or get it programmed. If you want to wire up the cags here is a link to an awesome A4-T56 swap guide.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Good luck.

Re: t-56 conversion wireing

it won't throw the code for the CAGS until you reprogram the computer for the 6 speed. It may throw some codes for some of the stuff it's expecting
see in the automatic tranny.

Re: t-56 conversion wireing

As long as you can start it you can drive it, I read you might have to connect two wires somewhere to make the car think it's in neutral. And the SES light should definitely come on seeing how you have OBD2, you'll have to get the vehicle reprogrammed to fix that, at which time removing cags will not be a problem. Your speedo will most likely be way off so you'll want to get the programming part done ASAP. How's the swap going? My auto broke and I'll be diving in this weekend. I'm looking forward to a manual, but I don't think I'm going to enjoy this weekend.

Re: t-56 conversion wireing

Its going okay now i guess. Well it made it worse because I moved 200 miles away from my buddy's that we are doing the build sence we started this thing. My best advice is make sher you get ALL the parts before you start. I thought I had everything. Turns out i didnt. I started on a sat. morning. With the peddle asembly. Got that all in. Sunday we went to another friends shop and started to work on the tranny part. Turns out i didnt have the right Flywheel bolts. And A4 ones are to long. Then I didnt have the bolts to bolt in the actually stick. Ohyeah and the clutch they sent was horrid. (gmsports.com By the way) I get all these part while my friend is putting stuff together back at the shop. Turns out when i get back i didnt get a clutch fork pivot bolt or the clutch fork pivot nut. I went ahead and put the tranny in and towed it to my friend's house. So i ordered what i thought was the right part. Clutch fork T bolt. It took about a week for me to get it. Finaly i get the bolt and thats all it was. A BOLT. Made no sence because the clutch fork was machined for some kind of pivot setup or something. So i went back to the dealer and didnt leave till we figured it out. Dealer guys were looking at the wrong exploded veiw of the tranny. Now today actually i get a phone call from my friend saying he just picked up the nut. And thank god its the right one. Ill probably drive 200 miles back to fresno to finish this weekend. Thats why I asked about flashing later. Because im just thinking of options to getting this thing home. Ever sence i started this build though was never if i could get it done or whatever. It was wireing. Im just praying this thing doesnt throw any codes after i flash it and wire it up.

Okay guys. All done. Well almost. One thing is that my slave cylinder (used) is sucking air. I figured that it would. Other than that all thats left is the computer to be reprogramed. Get this i called up "Street and Performance" to get a stock 6 speed computer. I gave him my gear ratio and tire radius of course. I get the computer and the car just stays on for a couple of seconds and shutsoff. I call them and told them what happend and they just said maby its because they didnt install the anti theft stuff in it, in the same sentence they say well let me call you back. They dont call me back. And now when i call them to get an answer on when i can ship this thing back they say "im sorry he's busy can he call you back?" . Im getting the run around now. Bummer too cause thats all i have left.

That sucks. I already had tuning with Ion at madz28.com, so I just had to wait for that. And I had to replace the slave cylinder (dirty and disgusting) & master cylinder (shooting fluid out the end). Stuff like that gets old & will keep working till you disturb it, then it's toast.

BTW, if you go to shoebox's website, there's some info on the anti-theft system (VATS). If you can't get it resolved you can try out different resistance values till the car stays on. Kind of a PITA but sometimes it's better than waiting.
