T-56 Clunk
T-56 Clunk
I'm getting a clunk when I shift my t-56 in 1-4 gears. I can't really tell in 5th or 6th because I"m not shifting that hard and those gear changes are usually pretty soft. It's not a HUGE Clunk but it is noticeable upon disengaging the clutch after a gear change. If I go really soft on the gear change it's not nearly as bad. Does this sound like a bad transmission mount?
Also, in 1st gear when disengaging the clutch I get a slight rattle. Is this considered normal with the t56? I just purchased the vehicle so I"m just trying to make sure everything is in working order before I do anything to it.
Yea, I think that would be somewhat of an accurate description. It's starts when I'm nearly disengaged and once I'm fully disengaged and into the throttle more it goes away. It's not too noticable but I'm trying to pick up on the little things. Does the t-56 come with an adjustable slave cylinder or something that should be adjusted?
No..it does not come with an adjustable slave cylinder. Mine will make the same noise under certain conditions and I just replaced the flywheel, pilot bushing, clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. I honestly would not be concerned.

Well, that's reassuring then. Honestly, I took it for another spin last night and it only rattles immediately after the clutch has been fully disengaged, the car is at a low rpm, and just starting to accelerate. After it gets above a reasonable rpm it goes away. Maybe I just have to ride the clutch out a little longer and with more gas to prevent the rattling?

I replaced the trans mount with a new one and talked with a couple shops. They both stated that it's just a common occurrence in these cars with the t56. One owner even told me his 05 gto does the same thing unless the clutch is feathered out a little longer.
