Swapping Out Trannys to a T56 Questions.

Hello,
I have a question, besides the usual swap of Tranny, adding a Bellhousing, Adding a Flywheel, Clutch, Clutch Resevoir, swapping Brake pedal, adding a Clutch Pedal, changing the center console, swapping the Driveline, changing the stock 2.73 ring and pinion, and carrier. Having the computer reprogrammed. What else would I need besides a shifter?

I am thinking of swapping out the auto because over this past weekend, I almost traded my 02 Z28 A4 at a local used car shop for a 01 SS M6 but I backed out of the deal when they only wanted to give me $ 14,000 for my car (my car only has 30,620) miles on it. I also called the owner a dumb f#$% because he stated that after my car was sitting in for around 40 minuets, he started it and he was complaining about the piston slap. Stating that the SS (which was driven pretty damned hard for 20 minuet test drive) did not have piston slap, which it did. So I decided that I would rather swap then take a huge loss especially when they said my car has problems because of the piston slap issue.

Sounds like you covered it well. You'll need to buy a couple pigtail connectors, one for the VSS, one for the reverse light sensor. You can get these from any GM dealer. The ones for mine were about 15-$20 a piece. I didn't wire in the CAGS or reverse lock out, you don't really need them. I found it hard enough to shift into reverse, so i doubt you'll have a problem with hitting that gate when driving. You'll also need the bearing or bushing (i recommend the bushing, btw) that goes into the back of the crankshaft to support the tranny's input shaft. And you'll need to get the lower shift boot that covers the shifter hole in the floorpan.

I think that's it...

Thank You for the fast Response. Well at least it does not seem to be too bad of a swap .

No it's not bad at all. I did it in 11 hours by myself. But i had everything i needed right in the shop... all parts, tools, sawzall, hole drill bit, wiring kit, wiring diagram, clutch alignment tool, air gun, jack, torque wrench, all the LT1 torque specs on paper, etc etc. Once you have everything there, it's just a matter of swapping parts and turning wrenches. There's a LOT of bolts to contend with. So get ready for a workout
