U-joints, which one to change?

Alright I use to know this, but have forgotten. First off this in not on my car. It's on a Ford Explorer. Which one is it when it vibrates and shutters when you accelerate? Front or Rear? I am positive it is the U-joint and need to figure out which one it is now.

Thanks for your help in advance

As cheap as they are just replace them both. Why mess around? If one is gone chances the other is not far behind. Steven

yea good point that was the plan if i didn't figure it out. Maybe I will anyway.

I'd also like to know for future reference though which causes which.

A slight vibration would be the front and a wobble or bigger vibration is the rear. Any clunking when putting it in drive? Steven

my vote is replace them both, but besides that you can just pull the ds out and see which one is loose. If it clunks into gear, I'd check the rear.

There is no clunk when going into gear, it just has terrible "jimmy shakes" at midrange.

I didn't get to it so my mom is just taking it in to the shop/cause i got pulled over for no licence plate light...and spent my weekend hunting for a short in my system. This shop does great work....i'll be replacing them in two weeks maybe less.
