swapped 9.5" to 10.5" stall

I finally swapped out my stock tranny and Xtreme Trans 3k 9.5 inch stall for a CPT race build with a 3000 stall 10.5" Protorque unit. My old fluid looked like metalic paint! The new tranny is 1000 times better than the old one. Now for the converter, I can't say. I only drove it about 5 miles since I have a few tranny leaks to take care of. It brake stalls to about 3k, like the old one. But it definitly takes more rpm to even get the car moving and I couldnt really "feel" it stall up when getting into it. The rpms seemed to keep rising. I only did 1 WOT shift (1-2) and it doesnt seem the same. Maybe I was just so used to that old 3k stall. It seems strange that 2 converters with the same stall operate night and day different. The old one ran pretty good, but I think it was inefficient at the top end of the track (see times)...or it could have been my tranny now that I see the fluid. Hopefully I will get track times in a week or 2 to compare. Any thoughts?

No 2 converters are going to feel the same...Even those with the same stall. Many misadvertise their actual stall, also. Some find different ways to create stall. Your old converter looks like it was probably pretty inefficent. Let me know how you make out with a dragstrip comparison.

BTW, "teanny leaks"??? Where is it leaking from?

I went from a 3000 to a 3200 from a different company. Night and day.

The new one feels almost like a stock stall, but when I get on it it flies up to the stall rating and roasts the tires. My only complaint is that it actually feels slower.

Everybody says that the stall will make it feel slower, but the 3k stall made my car feel WAY faster... the new one feels slower.

Don't know what that means. Never had a chance to run the first one.

Thats kinda the way this feels, like its a little slower. Ill reserve judgement until I see the track times though. There is no mistaking either converter for being stock. I would love to take a ride in one these cars with a "stock feel high stall".
Frank, There are 2 leaks I have to look at. 1 is the pinion seal and I think the other is 1 of the lines going into the tranny. I wont know for sure until tommorow when I get it on a lift again. The pinion seal is spraying onto the exhaust, so it smells pretty bad.

Frank, PM sent on the leaks, its not the tail seal or the lines. BTW, what would the symptons be of overfilling the tranny?

It'll blow fluid out the vent. The vent is located on the top of the transmission case. You may have just found your leak

Will it eventually level out or will you have to drain a little yourself?

My very next question. I really don't want to pull the pan to drain the level down. I took a pic of the fluid level. Ill see if I can throw it up here.
BTW, I got home to see a voice mail from CPT about this. Frank is a class act. Sorry I missed your call.

I give up on trying to post a pic. I tried it through snapfish and couldnt link it. Anyway, the fluid level when warm (car sitting about 45min) is about where the top of the hatched area on the stick is, on the hot end.

Thats after shutting it down. I could not get a reading with the motor running. It sounds crazy, but I couldnt see where the fluid stopped on the stick.

You always check tranny fluid on level ground while the car is running.

You have to check it running.

I also wanted to ask what kind of external cooler you have on this. Overheating will also cause it to blow fluid out the vent. With a 3000 stall, you need a GOOD external cooler.

I have a cooler, a large B&M. I could not get a reading with the car running as I said...I had to let it sit. Maybe its so full I can't get a reading? Ill check it again tommorow, the drips seem to have subsided.
