Stupid slave cylinder???

installed a new slave cylinder today after putting my old clutch back in the car. Bled it untill it got stiff and put it in. Now the pedal is really really really stiff and i dont think it even going all the way to floor, what gives? It feels spongy too, is the new slave bad or am i missing something?

Re: Stupid slave cylinder???

If it's spongy, you most likely still have some air in the system. When I installed my new master and slave cylinder, I removed the line first so I could do the drill mod. When I put it back together, I set the whole thing up outside the car to bleed it. It took forever to finally get all the air out.

New slave clinders are pre-bled. You should have just been able to install it and go. I'd double check the clutch fork.

Re: Stupid slave cylinder???

Item #1..... "LT1/LT4 Engine Tech" if not for clutch problems.... I'll move this to "Drivetrain".

Item #2..... Are you saying that rather than buy the fully assembled and fluid filled master/slave set, you bought only a slave and replaced it? Is it possible the problem is in the master?

Also a bit fuzzy... the pedal is so stiff it may not even be going to the floor, but it feels "spongey". Not clear exactly what it feels like.

Re: Stupid slave cylinder???

yes i bought the slave cylinder only, not the entire kit. And the pedal has a spongy feel to it but just a really really stiff sponge, i have changed clutches in this car and others before and never had and issue, but this was first time to change a slave. and even pushing as hard as i can the pedal wont go to the floor.

Re: Stupid slave cylinder???

I am not quite following you here, but if its still spongy. Then might be the master or more air in the line.. But you also say that its soo hard that you can't push it to the floor.. This takes me back to checking the clutch fork again..

Re: Stupid slave cylinder???

I had a problem once when the clutch pedal wouldn't go all the way to the floor. What it turned out to be was that the disk apparently had wicked up moisture when I had it stored in a box under the car on the concrete garage floor for a few weeks before I installed it. When I put it in and finally got around to firing up the car a few days later, the clutch wouldn't release (pedal would go about 1/2 way down and stop). When I pulled the clutch back out I found the organic disc "glued" to the pressure plate. The hydraulic pressure was unable to overcome this and that's why it wouldn't release.
