Street Twin question about "Special Internal Balancing"
Street Twin question about "Special Internal Balancing"
Im getting ready to order a new McLeod Street twin as soon as I figure out what the differance between these 2 part numbers are. Here is the first MCL-64022-1A-07 "Flywheel is 153 tooth, includes steel replacement master cylinder" and here is the second MCL-64022-00-07 "Special internal balancing, flywheel is 153 tooth and includes steel replacement master cylinder". Whats the differance with the balancing? Which would be better for a street driven car that sees the track 8-10 times a year but gets alot of street action? There is only $24 differance in the price so thats no big deal, but what is the differance in the clutch? Please let me know if you know. Thank you very much.

Re: Street Twin question about "Special Internal Balancing"
The choice between these two clutch kits has already been made for you. The 00-07 clutch has a zero-balanced flywheel, and is therefore meant to be paired with an engine that has been internally balanced when it was made. Most professionally built engines are internally balanced.
The 1A-07 clutch, on the other hand, has a flywheel meant as a direct replacement for the factory unit, and is balanced accordingly. The stock LT1 is not internally balanced - there is some weight built into the flywheel to externally balance the motor.
So... if your car is running the stock crank/rods/pistons, you will need the 1A-07. If you have a motor built with internal balancing, you need the 00-07. However, if needed, a machine shop could balance either one properly for your application. What clutch is currently in the car, and what sort of motor?

Re: Street Twin question about "Special Internal Balancing"
Wow, Thanks for the thurough reply. Im running the SPEC stage 4 and I have a stone stock LT1 with a CC306 and bolt ons. Ive got some good use out of the SPEC4 for about 50,000 miles but Im ready for a real clutch that I know Im not going to have any issues with.
Re: Street Twin question about "Special Internal Balancing"
Yeah, you'll need the 1A-07. And you won't regret the choice of the Street Twin.
It will seem harsh at first, but after broken in for about 500 miles they work great!
Re: Street Twin question about "Special Internal Balancing"
Awsome! I cant wait. Im sure my 10 bolt will hate it, but Illl have my 4.10s in next weekend so I wont have to deal with 3.23s anymore. So hopefully it will last a few passes. Thanks again for the help.
