Strange S60 diffs

Anyone install one of these. Are they that much better than the 12 bolt to warrant the price. How was the ease of install?

Re: Strange S60 diffs

thats all nice and they are strong, but for the ease of gear change and the known strength, i'd get the 9" ford. it's been proven for a long time that it's worth buying.

To warrant the price? Last I checked they were actually cheaper than the 12 bolt...

Re: Strange S60 diffs

Lightest to Heaviest: 12 bolt, 9 inch, S60

Weakest to strongest: 12 bolt, 9 inch, S60

Ring Gear: 12 bolt 8.875", 9 inch 9" (duh!) S60 9.75"

The 12 bolt and 9 inch come with a 33 spline posi, the S60 is a 35 spline unit. There are alot of posts comparing the weights and parasitic loss %s around boards like this and ls1tech.

Cool Re: Strange S60 diffs

Get the S60,its a waste of effort to ship a lesser rear end all the way to Honolulu.

Re: Strange S60 diffs

Is it confirmed and proven that the Dana 60 is stronger than a 9"? Or Was it just assumed that it's stronger just for having a larger ring gear. How much does having the lower pinion placement and 3 bearing support of pinion contribute to the 9" strength?

Re: Strange S60 diffs

theoretically, the s-60 is stronger. but many guys run 9" rears right into the 8's. i don't think any of us are shooting for 8's. plus, there are soo many parts for 9" fords. aluminum cases are even decently cheap.
