Strange Dana 60 for '82-02 F-bodies...
Strange Dana 60 for '82-02 F-bodies...
I was just flipping thru my latest issue of GMHTP and saw the ad from Strange for their S60 rear... I was wondering when they'd make one for our cars...Its a whole lotta rear for $2295..The ring and pinion dwarfs the 12 bolt, 35 splined axles, andthe TA mount is a bolt thru like the Strange 12 bolt. I'm sure it weighs more, takes more power to turn, etc, but it would appear to be a very stout alternative to the 9"...Whodathunk it? A Mopar under a GM...
Just an FYI for those of you on the fence about what rear to get, more decisions...

I believe that they do make it for our cars. Someone on NJFBOA put one in their LS1 Trans Am. Give Strange a ring and see if they make one for LT1 cars with the 3 channel ABS. If they had the S60 when I purchased my 12 bolt from them 3 years ago, I would have went with it hands down. The S60 looks like it will take anything you can throw at it, short of a nuclear blast.

Yeah, I'm sorry...That was the point of my post...It is for our cars...That ad is on the last page of the new GMHTP
Yeah, I bought my Strange 12 bolt last year....Might have considered the S60,too...

Seriously, though, it does look like a good deal for a great rear end... something I may be looking into in the future.
Any idea if it's compatible with 4-ch ABS?
Re: Strange Dana 60 for '82-02 F-bodies...
It says right in the ad that is is good for 3-channel or 4-channel ABS/TCS systems.
I also doubt that the Dana 60 takes more power to turn. The pinion shaft is located closer to the centerline of the ring gear, resulting it it having the LOWEST measured losses compared to other popular replacements..... published numbers are:
Dana 60 - 5% loss
GM 12-Bolt - 7%
Ford 9" - 10%
Putting a Chrysler rear in a GM car doesn't seem any more radical than putting a Ford rear in

Ok, so all of you wanted to sell your 12 bolt and switch to the Dana, let me know, I'll take them off your hands...
Seriously, that's pretty cool. Does it need the LCA and sway bar brackets welded on like some 12 bolts as well or what?

I have a Strange Engineering S60 sitting in the garage waiting to be installed in my T/A... 3.73 gears, 35-spline axles, Tru-Trac diff, black powdercoated support cover, and it's fully setup for 3-channel ABS.
Many guys on ls1tech.com are already running them.
