Strange 12 bolt...vent tube?
Just bought a strange 12 bolt..where the hell is a vent tube on this thing?
Also how are you suppose to fill it up? The fill plug on the side of the rear end is pretty low comapered to my Moser?

MIne did not have a fill plug on the side like the original 10 bolt did. I used the fill hole on the aluminum cover.
Have you installed and run yours yet? Did you get any gear whine?
I had a few issues with mine.

Re: Strange 12 bolt...vent tube?
hey guys, what do all of you think of the strange rear? I am getting ready to order mine in a couple of weeks. I plan on going with the 4.10s although I am also going to check and see if I can get 4.11s instead if they have them for the extra strength. Did any of you order the stronger posi or aluminum cover for the extra money and do you know what the differences are? Can't wait to get mine - hopes its everything they advertise, but I assume it will be since its from Strange.

Re: Strange 12 bolt...vent tube?
They all come with the stronger posi, or at least that's what Strange told me, they were having too many people have issues with the "weak" posi.. The "strong" has 800# springs, I believe the std. one had like 500# springs or something like that.
I didn't get the aluminum cover, but it's just a TA bearing-cap pre-load cover.
4.10's and 4.11's are the same strength, I don't know where you heard different.
I''m having good luck with my Strange, although it's only about 2K miles old.

Re: Strange 12 bolt...vent tube?
The Strange has a vent, but no vent "tube".... the vent is as several people have mentioned above.
I always fill mine to the bottom of the fill hole.
When I bought mine in 1999, the "standard" posi was a 9-disc unit, and they offered a "super strength" posi (the 800# unit) that was 14-disc and cost quite a bit extra, because the ABS ring had to be machined into the unit, not just bolted on. At that time, the TA cover was also "standard".
A friend of mine started with the "standard" posi, and burned up the clutches at about the 750HP level. He then replaced it with the "800#" posi, and took it up close to 1,000HP, in a 3,900# car. He only went to a 9-inch when he went over 1,000HP (he's now up to 1,325HP). I've been running the Strange for 5 years, currently at 800HP with no problems. I run the US Gear/Strange Pro Street 4.11's.
I think what he is pointing out is the larger teeth on the 37/9 (4.11) vs. the smaller teeth on the 41/10 (4.10) gear sets.

Re: Strange 12 bolt...vent tube?
Actually I heard that the 4.11s has one less tooth which makes the other teeth thicker since the gear is the same size. Therefore it would be stronger. I could be wrong though.

xxsaint69x, seeing as how you didn't have noise until you raced I'm going to have to ask. Did you wait for the entire breakin period before you started driving it hard (race)? Most people don't believe it, but it does make a difference in parts like these that you wait the entire breakin period before you romp on it.
