strange 12 bolt questions
strange 12 bolt questions
I installed a strange 12 bolt 3 channell 2 weeks ago. My abs light comes on at 10 mph. I see the sensor is adjustable up and down, however it rides above a flat machined area of the carrier, just right of the reluctor ring.
Did they install the sensor in the wrong place? I called them last week before knowing the location of where it was riding, they said .010" of an inch, that seems too close.
Also, who all has waited the entire 1000 miles? I have 850 and decided to change the oil. The tag on the rearend said to fill with 2 quarts and posi add.
They failed to mention it already had lube in it, so of course it was way overfull.
Finally, my sway bar is in a bind. I searched and people say it will clear with out a girdle. Mine has the stock chrome cover and still hits. In the future will we have to remove sway bar every time we take off cover? If any one has had the same luck please share your solutions.

Re: strange 12 bolt questions
It sounds like the ABS sensor is installed 90* off, it has notches in the plastic carrier part, it needs to be pulled out, rotated and put back in.
And .010 is not that close and it needs to be in that proximity to work properly.
Of course it has lube in it, Did you expect to be driving around for 1K miles without any lube in it?
I don't have any issues with the cover and sway bar, it's in the way a little, but I got around it be varying the height I jacked the car up to get the swaybar to move vertically. Not to mention I'm **** about changing fluids like that and even I do it only like every 20K, for my that's every 3-4 years... I can deal with that.

Re: strange 12 bolt questions
Yes, its a threaded stud, but on mine, the hole for the threaded stud is not in the center of the mounting plate, hence as you rotate the plate, you change the location of the sensor relative to the reluctor gears. It's been 5 years since I did the Strange install, but I think they might have even shipped the sensor with a choice of two mounting plates to account for the difference. Or maybe the've changed the design... the sensor really wasn't very good, and almost impossible to keep adjusted.
I have pulled the entire carrier without removing the sway bar. With the LPW aluminum cover, the "v" part of the sway bar would rotate up as the body dropped, and hit the "boss" for the LPW logo. It was a simple fix... the brackets are held in postion on the axle tubes by a small clip welded on the tube, that fits into a notch on the sway bar u-bolt bracket. Simply enlarge the notch in the bracket to allow the bracket to rotate so the sway bar moves rearward relative to the axle housing (move the top of the u-bolts toward the front of the car.
I think this picture shows how far the brackets have been rotated:

Re: strange 12 bolt questions
Fred,
Yes, they are still shipped with the plastic insert that the ABS sensor mounts in, it's held in by a Button-Head SHCS; and it can be installed in 4 different positions, 90* intervals, which change the location of the sensor itself.
