stock T-56 + 383... how long till it goes?

I was wondering who here has run a 383 on stock t-56? I have a viper shift fork and new syncros, but I know those wont make it last much longer. Anyone want to make a guess as to how many passes I can get out of it? Mods in sig, I am guessing 5-10 passes before it blows!!

I think your clutch is going to go before your tranny will.

really? I will be getting LE2 heads, and a meeaan cam (hopefully)

how should I be careful just to make sure? what is best precaution at the track?
The clutch is a stage 2 spec, and I just checked it and it looks almost brand new still (25,000 miles) with under .020" of wear and last I drove it, it gripped like new.

thanks again

Dont get me wrong. depending on how you drive your car will be the deciding factor. if you want to get the most out of your setup, you need a clutch thats going to handle the torque and hp that you throw at it. If you like your spec I would at least upgrade to a spec 3.

My stock T56 is fine behind my 383, its held up to 8000+ street miles and a fair share of 5000rpm dumps on slicks....This is with a SPEC 4F, so don't worry about it. Just make sure its all the way in gear before you drop the hammer.

I wouldn't run a spec clutch, I know of a few people locally that have had their clutches explode, leaving their cars totaled.

I love my spec, it grabs like nothing I have ever driven before... I guess it comes down to luck? Lots of my friends have gotten RAM clutches, and I would pick spec over them because of this kevlar clutch.

I've seen blown ls1 cars with 600 rwhp leaving hard on stock t56s. Just upgrade the clutch assembly and you should be good.

You'll probably never have a problem with the T56 on a single disk pull type clutch. They just won't hit hard enough to hurt the transmission. Go to a Twin Disk and you may snap an output shaft or gink up the splines in the slip yoke. Upgrade your T56 to a 31 spline output shaft and you'll have no worries. I have hundreds of 5500 RPM launches on my 31 spline T56 and my clutch hits very hard on with Hoosier 27X11.5's. For example, I've killed numerous 12 bolt R&P's (that's why I went to a 9") but the T56 is rock solid.
