stock rear end strength
How Strong is the Stock rear on a 02 Z28? i want to put 315 35 r 17's drags on the back. i got a 3000 stall converter, and want to do enough mods to put at least 400hp to the ground the question is WILL IT HANDLE IT? and if not can anyone let me know what the stock rear end will handle?

Re: stock rear end strength
hit or miss. typically everyone will say no, or wont last long. some say its fine. im in the ballpark of rwhp you are looking for, but on a stock tc, soon to have a custom one built. same boat as you, but differant folks, differant strokes

Re: stock rear end strength
i think it can handle it cause it is a high performance car. i really dont think the factory would intentionally put a weak rear in a car that make that kinda power. gm rears through out their history have been pretty strong anyway i was just tryin to make sure this ones not any different

Re: stock rear end strength
I think what matters more is how much rwtq you are going to be making..and how you drive it.
I run the stock rear on both of my cars..
my SS made 466rwhp/540rwtq ,the diff in that car lasted no longer then 3 months and a few good launches on drag radials .....then it spit out a ring gear.I think it had something to do with the 540rwtq @ 3000rpm .
the Lt1 makes more rwhp then my SS .....but it does not crank out that kind of rwtq, and the diff in that car is all stock but does have a diff cover and welded tubes. It has lasted 3 years and I drive it on drag radials as well.

Re: stock rear end strength
A4's don't shock the rearend on launches with sticky tires the way M6's do. If you were driving a M6 I would recommend an upgrade, since you have an A4 your tranny is more likely to give you trouble than your rear.
