stock 10 bolt 7.5 or 7.625?

The stock differential and ring gear in a 2000 z28 is 7.625 right? Could i run a 7.5 in it? What would be the draw backs of running a 7.5 instead of 7.625?

Yes, the factory 10-bolt from a 4th-gen uses a 7-5/8" ring gear (7.625"). I've got one in my garage right now waiting to be swapped in place of the 2.73's.

It can be either or with our cars...best way to find out what you have is to call your dealer and have them look the part up by your Vin#....they hsould be able to tell you exactly what's in your rear...but for the most part...gear manufacturers rate the gears as fitting 7.5's even though you may have a 7 5/8ths ...only time I've see nthe 7 5/8th get technical is when replacing the Posi unit.

Do you have the gears out of your car now? If so, it should be stamped somewhere along the outside edge of the ring gear, or just measure the gear.
