to stay auto or go manual? that is the ?

i have an 88 iroc z and i was wondering if i should just keep the 700 which is now slipping and needs rebuilt, rebuild it put in a shift kit and a stall converter or convert it to a 5 speed? i have everything to convert to a 5 except flywheel and bellhousing... my friend had it laying around he got it from a guy his dad works with and assures me that it worked but he wasnt sure if it was a 6 cyl or 8. i saw the car from the road before he said it was a 88 RS 350 carbd but i have a feeling it was a 6 cause he didnt have the flywheel and bellhousing, but he did give me a brand new clutch kit for a 350 he said a friend of his wanted the bellhousing and flywheel... i think the car was a conversion becasue he traded me all that stuff for a turbo 350 he said he was goign to drag race it and wanted better consistency. if it is the 6 cyl tranny is it worth my time to put it in or should i look for a 8 trany or just rebuild the auto? what is the difference between the 6 and 8 trannys anyone know? how can you tell? thanks...

Are you serious into drag racing? Are you doing A LOT of stop and go driving? If no, and you feel like tackling a project like that, I'd say go for it! Manuals are so much fun!
