Stall question.

What stall would you recommend for a F1A 383? And will that same stall be driveable with a stock powered car until I get the motor in?

Right now my car is pretty much bolt on and the tranny is FUBAR. I have another performance rebuilt tranny waiting on a stall so I can drive it this year. This winter, I will have the motor and blower ready to go in. But for now I just want to get the tranny in and have it driveable this summer. Right now I have a 3.23 rear end and its at about 3500 raceweight with moslty bolt-ons.

This winter I will drop in a F1A 383 shooting for 650+rwhp through a 4L60E and either a 12 bolt or a S60, not sure on the gear yet, but it will need to hook up on the street, preferably without running full slicks.

So I'm just wondering what stall to get now that will also work well with this winters project?

When I told them I had a supercharger they said it didn't matter and recommended the 2800 to 3000 stall. I hear 3600 is a good size and still maintains the drivability. The gear size and other things will determine the stall size.

Drivability is very subjective. Some people run around on the street with a converter stalling at 4,500 and think nothing of it. When mine had an automatic for a couple of years I had a 4,500 stall and hated it. This is something only you can decide. As far as with v. w/o the blower, it will be much tighter with less hp, so it shouldn't be a problem in that regard. If I ever again have a high performance street car with an auto (which is very unlikely) I wouldn't consider a converter stalling more than 3,500rpm.

Well, the rear end that I just bought comes with 3.73's so I'll run those at least for this summer maybe longer if I like them. And since I will very rarely drive it this summer(just cruises and occasionally to work) I can probably put up with a decent sized stall. But what I want to know is, lets say I get a 3200 stall with my 3.73 gears and at the power level I'm at right now, how will that drive compared to when I have the blown 383 with about 150 less pounds. Will it move the stall speed up? Seems like most supercharged applications run 2800-3000 max stall. I'd expect the torque to come in pretty early with my application.
