Exclamation Stall convertor ques?

Well first off im new the names josh nice to meet everyone.

I have a 93 z28 with a fresh motor and a rebuilt trans with a trans pak and a 2300 stall. I have 3.23 gear in it. Other then that its pretty much stock...for now.

question is do you guys think that 2300 stall is a good match for my car for right now? im putting headers and some other bolt ons very soon.

let me know what you think. thanks!!!

Most of us agree it is pretty much a waste to do anything less than a QUALITY 9.5" 2800+ stall. I know that sounds high but a QUALITY converter in that stall drives quite nicely. A 12" 2300 stall is a gamble, if it is Edge or Precision it is a decent piece, but not ideal. If you got it through an average tranny shop it is probably a $60 Dacco you paid $200 for.

Edge Yank and Vigilante are my choices in that order. Edge does not have a billet cover which is why it is so much cheaper than the other two.

The B&M kit you chose is the dead last one I would have looked at. Transgo is prefered for these trannies with TCI being OK, never have I seen a reputable good comment about B&M for this tranny.

I know none of that is what you wanted to hear but it is the sort of thing guys hear when they ask AFTER doing mods rather than before.

yea thats the thing about my trans, when i put it into overdrive and put it to the floor it only revs to 3 grand through all the gears(shift, shift, shift) , but when i drop it into first and shift manually it revs out all the way. Does that sound right to you?

Sounds like the tranny was setup badly. Believe those use a mechanical means to time shifts. The 94+ stuff is computer controlled.

Yep which is why the throttle bodies are different on the 93's vs 94-97, the kickdown cable on the 93.

+1 on a better stall of atleast 2800, bare minimum... Had a 3k stall and wish i went with a 3.5k. Now im on a 4k! lol

The trans most likely shifts at 3000 each time because of a heavier governer, i'm sure when you had the trans rebuilt the tranny shop put a new one in as that part wears and will lock up sometimes. It is hard to find a goverener that is as light as the stock ones that was put in it from factory. I tried finding one for my car and was unable to find one that wasn't heavier than the original.

Your t/v cable needs adjusted, search 700r4 t/v cable adjustment. You'll smoke the trans if not done soon and properly. It should shift normal under moderate throttle. Then see where your wot shift points are. I raised my wot point by trimming coils off the smaller spring in the governor. It's set for the 1-2 shift, I manually shift 2-3.

This has turned out to be a tranny question, not an engine question, so let's move the post to "Drivetrain".
