Will I have to get another tune when I install a stall converter?

Re: Stall Converter

Yes the car has a tune because it has a custom grind cam.I was thinking of getting a stall from after my warranty runs out on my rebuilt 4l60e in a couple of months. The builder would not give a warranty with a stall converter installed.I was thinking about maybe somewhere around 2600 to 3200 range for a stall.

Re: Stall Converter

looking at your sig, looks like you're set up for street fun and dragstrip. What's missing is a stall. Considering a factory/OEM stall is about 1800,a 2600 would be a complete waste of money, time, effort, even a 3200 would still leave you wanting more. 3500/3600 range, from CircleD or Yank, would be a good match for your 3.73s'.

Re: Stall Converter

Instead of starting at 1800 where high torque application causes a sort of engagement to the drivetrain and having to climb/accelerate thru all that low horsepower part of the curve, a 'higher' stall will start more into the 'meatier' part of the curve. You're not wasting time(1/4 mile ET) climbing thru it. And that applies to every gear.

Re: Stall Converter

Don't know where you're located, but one of the best ways to find out what you like is get some rides(as a passenger) in some stalled f-bods. Knowing what convertor(brand/rated stall rpm and gears) is in it,pay attention to low throttle response rpm to get vehicle moving and medium throttle gear kickdowns.

Re: Stall Converter

I live in Savannah Ga. Most people around here have the LS1 and the ones that have the LT1 will not give much info on their setup.Have you had any experience with Protorque converters?

Re: Stall Converter

never heard of them.
doesn't matter if the rides are in LS1s',you'll get the info/experience you'll need to make a decision.

Re: Stall Converter

Typically,'on the shelf stocked' convertors such as B&M-Hughes-TCI have a lot of slippage(looseness)and don't give the expected performance. Custom convertors such as Yank and CircleD will be tighter at low end and give the expected performance on the street and strip.
You get what you pay for. convertors in the $300-400 range don't measure up to convertors in the $700-800 range.
The ONLY advantage of the 300-400 convertors is their slippage will allow a cammed motor to idle high enough without trying to push thru the brakes at stop.

Are there any dealers on this site for Yank? Where is the best place to get one?
