Re: Spools

Not too bad on the highway. It makes the steering feel heavy. Sucks bad in parking lots or tight turns. If it's a daily driver you would probably get tired of it pretty quick.

Re: Spools

If you do a search you will see a lot of discussion of this. I wouldn't consider a spool for a moment on a street car, but there are other opinions, which are you know are like "what" in that everyone has one!

Re: Spools

Isn't a Detroit "Locker" a little more streetable than a spool diff?? They at least un-lock to allow the axles to turn different speeds around corners?

Re: Spools

i car has a spool in it and it can be a pain in the *** somtimes. like they said in parking lots and places like that you will wish you didnt have it but they are cheaper than a detriot by a long shot and they make for one hell of a launch at the track

Re: Spools

A locker is an option. They aren't good for agressive street driving (accelerating out of corners, for example) and the "clunk" when they lock/unlock can be annoying to some. A spool is great at the track though. You really need to drive one, unless you are comfortable with the strong possibility that you won't like it and will be swapping it back out in short order.

I really like the Eaton posi (with the 800lb springs) as it is as close to the "best of both worlds" that is currently available. It is even rebuildable. Not cheap though and certianly not as strong as a spool.
