Spec Stage 4 +Prothane Polyurethane tranny mount =Strange noises from tranny?? HELP!!
2 months ago I changed my stock clutch to SPEC Stage 4 (no springs in the hub), clutch kit. While doing that I also changed stock Transmission and torque arm mounts to Prothane Polyurethane mounts and change the tranny fluid to fully synthetic ATF.
Immediately after the installation I noticed some strange grinding noise coming out from the transmission. The sound appears only in certain RPM and in certain gears. Ex. No sound in 1st, on second gear only near 2k RPM and disappears on 2100RMPS, than gets back again in 4th from 2100 to 2500RPM (it’s the loudest in 4th gear). It is like metal to metal grinding and it pretty loud (in 4th gear). It’s loudest in WOT in 4th gear. No noise in 5th or 6th gear…
When I call SPEC they said that the sound is normal, cuz the STAGE 4 clutch disk doesn’t have any springs in the hub, so how the gear resonance isn’t absorbed my the springs (As it was in the stock clutch).
What do you guys think??? I know that my tranny is working fine (synchros are ok). Is it the Prothane Polyurethane tranny mount???
I really HATE that noise, its not your normal vibration, it sounds like there was something really wrong with the tranny/clutch (but it work flawlessly).

Re: Spec Stage 4 +Prothane Polyurethane tranny mount =Strange noises from tranny?? HE
my stage 5 (v6) did the same for about 500 miles then the vibrations went away.... 4th gear was worse..... the tranny mount takes time to "break in"
also reverse suck for first 1000 miles lol

are you absolutely sure the synchros are OK?
i would say it is fairly normal. i know my Spec 4 and poly mounts all over makes some vibrations at certain speeds, but not metal grinding.
i'd be willing to bet the stiff mounts are transfering more noise than you're use to, combined with increased noise from the clutch

Yes synchros are ok. I had absolute no problems/strange sunds before new clutch/tranny mounts.
I think I Will wait another 1000 miles and if it wont go away, I will change back to stock transmission mount...
