SPEC Clutch was DESTROYED!

Want to pass this along. Don't know if it was install wrong or a faulty clutch. But this could have turned out alot worse that what it did. Scroll about halfway down.

That's nasty. Looks to me like the PP gave away and not the disk. Isn't that part of the PP's "ring plate" nestled in the header?

Exactly what I see... a Pressure Plate that gave way... the disk itself seems to be intact... Since SPEC doesn't make the pressure plate the use... but instead just alters them so they read SPEC... who can say... Then again we haven't seen the clutch apart...

aNyhow I"ve had nothing but trouble from SPEC.... but more than anyting... I'm thinking now it's just the Bad Hydo system on the LT-1

Isn't that an LS1 car? They have a much different clutch set up than the LT1's. I've never seen an LT1 or LT4 pp give way like that. Also LS1 cars seem to have even more problems in general with clutches than LT1's from what I've seen. Stock and aftermarket.

That can happen with any clutch. And it's not a first. So go and tell all your family members, friends and people you don't know about it.

BTW, this isn't directed at anyone in particular, that's just the way stupid crap like this goes down on the 'net.

I don't see how people can complain about parts breakage when they RACE their car. It can happen to anything at any time.

I completly agree with you, when your racing you ALWAYS run the risk of breaking something. I was just passing this along to show the damaged it cause, not trying to make spec look bad ( even though they have had there problems ) Luckily the guy didn't end up with his foot cut off.

Re: SPEC Clutch was DESTROYED!

You're right we all run that risk when driving a car hard. I guess that's what scatter shields are for. Usually though you don't have to worry about that kind of stuff happening until you're making serious power.

I never bothered to get a driveshaft loop for a long time until one weekend I was helping a friend on the road course. While working on his car I got to see some old scars on the trans tunnel (ripped right through it) left over from when he had a driveshaft bust while going 140 mph down a straight. That was enough to convince me I needed to cough up the cash and install one.

Re: SPEC Clutch was DESTROYED!

Umm thats one thing that i still don't have either. I should probley invest in one. The worst thing i have had happen soo far, was on my BRM Torque arm the top hyins ( SP ) bolt broke and my whole rear end shifted up and slammed the DS into the trans tunnel and e-brake cable bracket. Put a big dent in the DS and tore up the bracket alittle. I had to drive in reverse for 5 miles to get it home. Other wise the rearend would shift up if i was going forward. When it first happen i though i threw the DS, but was happy to find out it wasn't. Damage wasn't very back at all. New DS, hynis bolt ($20) and that was it.
