SPEC 3, or 3+?
SPEC 3, or 3+?
I've got 555 RWTQ, in my Z28 in my sig. I have the SPEC 3 and love it, but its time for a new clutch and was wondering if the stage 3 was really enough? Also, I have heard the 3+ was great to drive (better than just the stage 3), can anyone vouch for that?
SPEC's website quote's the stage 3 at 762, and the 3+ at 845. My clutch is about 2-3 years old, and I thought my stage 3 was much less than that when I got it?
Any info, or opinions weclomed.
NOTE* If the stage 3 would really work, its about $150 cheeper, and I would like to save money here if it will be needles for something I don't necissarily need.

I have the 3+ and it is an excellent clutch once it is broke in. When it is brand new it is crazy stupid hard to drive cause its so grabby. Its like an on/off switch for at least the first 20 miles. 50 miles later it starts to really get better and after about 400 miles it starts to really work well.
It grabs very well when brand new but I have noticed that mine whch now has about 2K miles does not seem to grab quite as well as once before although I dont think it is slipping when under hard load. It shift 90% like stock but just takes a little getting used to. The best way to drive it is to give it just a bit more RPM under normal take off and all is well.
It grips more than the stage 3 and has much better street manners too, not as much of the graby effect.
If this is a street driven car I would go 3+. If it is less of a street driven car and considering your power I would get an even beter clutch ike a stage 4 or equivalant.

Thanks for the streetability info. But to the real heart of the question; if the stage 3 is rated at 762 RWTQ, wouldn't that be overkill and then some for my 555 RWTQ? If so, why would I really need to go to a stage 3+ (or especially a stage 4)?
I will be contacting SPEC in the next few days to discuss the differences of their new clutches vs their clutches of a few years ago when I first got mine, because I was on the understanding that my stage 3 was under rated for my power level, however after visiting their website, is seems their current stage 3 would be MORE than enough.

I personally think the ratings are bunk. Thats an opinion. The Valeo pull clutches in general don't have the grip of the pushers again IMHO so it would be hard to over do it. Either would be a good choice but again if you want better streetability go with the plus.
I have had my spec stage 4 for 3-4yrs w/out any issues yet. It takes sometime to get used to but after a few weeks its nothing at all to drive in stop/go traffic. I never had good luck with the stage 3's due to breaking the springs on the disc twice..

I debated over the 3+ and the twin and decided not to spend the extra few hundred dollars on the twin and went w/ the 3+. I've gone to the track once so far and it has held up nicely, however I was bogging to spinning to 1.8x 60' times so it really hasn't been put to the test as of yet.
Driveability wise the 3+ is much better than the Spec 4.
