something is hopping around!!!

hey everyone i am new to this site and i have been browsing around in search for an answer to my mysterious dillemma! i own a 97 z28 w/ the t-56 tranny w/ 118k miles on it. my problem is when i drive and i hit a bump in the road or even if i "get on the gas" my car hops around!! especially in between intersections where the roads are the worst, i can literally watch my shifter **** bounce up and down!! i have taken it to several mechanics and have gotten several answers, someone told me that it was the drive shaft so i took mine in and that didnt solve the problem.. i've had the mounts checked and everything, i even threw on a "performance" tranny mount and nothing helps!!!
has anyone else had this problem? and so how do i get rid of it? cuz i am sick and tired of my car feeling more like a roller coaster ride!
thanks for any help.

You appear to be describing two different problems.... first the excessive "hop" when you hit a bump or the throttle. Could be anything from excessive tire pressure to badly worn out shocks or worn bushings in the LCA's and panhard rod. Second problem is the bouncing shifter, and if you are sure the tranny mount isn't broken, you might want to check the motor mounts. The trans can't move unless the mounts are bad. What "performance" tranny mount did you buy?

I saw in your other post that the guy who swapped your DS told you your original DS was two-piece. No, not on the V8's. Only the V6 cars had two-piece driveshafts.

Re: something is hopping around!!!

it wasnt an actual two piece, he said that the shaft has a tube inside which some refer to as a two piece.. i put a performance mount on from auto zone i think the brand is eneregy suspension.. as far as the hopping goes i did some research and it seems to be wheel hop..
i know where the lca's are but whats the panhard rod and what purpose does it serve?

The panhard rod connect the drivers side of the axle assembly and the passenger side of the chassis. It holds the side-to-side position of the body over the rear axle.

Is your car lowered at all? If so, it generally requires LCA relocation to correct the geometry of the LCA's. Even if the car isn't lowered, this can reduce wheel hop.

You need to check all the components for wear, since worn shocks will simply make all the small problems larger.

Did you ever get this resolved? I have about the same issue with the shifter and the console bouncing up and down. I have poly motor mounts and poly trans mount. If i hit a bump with the rear the console bounces. Thanks
