Solid Motor Mounts?
Are they a bad idea? I have what Id call excessive motor torque and figure solid mounts are the only solution. Vibration isnt a big deal as long as its not bad on the highway.
Re: Solid Motor Mounts?
I've heard their really not that bad as long as you have an open mind and expect atleast some vibration. I've considered them myself when the motor is out this winter.
Re: Solid Motor Mounts?
I hope you aren't considering 340 lb*ft "excessive" torque?
I know that just adding an Energy Suspension polyurethane tranny mount has increased vibrations in the car drastically, so I can't imagine what SOLID motor mounts would do?!
I'd say just replace the mounts, or maybe upgrade to poly mounts (I'm assuming there are poly mounts?
) but unless you're running a 100% race-only car, then I'd stay away from solid mounts
. JMO:blah:.

Re: Solid Motor Mounts?
Well I didnt mean the torque the motor is putting out is excessive but when it is sitting there idling you can see itl rattle back and forth as if the mounts are shot.
Re: Solid Motor Mounts?
I've had solid motor mounts in my car for several years now, but I'm definitely going to swap them out for poly mounts sometime soon. The vibration makes the interior panels "buzz" and/or rattle like crazy - once you get one buzzing panel fixed with foam tape, 2 more panels will take it's place.
Re: Solid Motor Mounts?
If you're worried about the motor moving back and forth too much, put Poly mounts in. If that doesn't fix it to your liking.....Take the Cam out. DO NOT put solid mounts into a mostly street driven car. You will regret it!!!

Re: Solid Motor Mounts?
Just so you know, if you have a healthy cam, the motor is going to move around some at idle. That is just the nature of the beast. I currently have a pretty aggressive 383 solid roller running the BMR k-member, which uses a stock mount on the drivers side and a poly mount on the pass. side. I also have a poly transmission mount and I don't really care for the amount of vibration that I have transmitted. I'm going to try to go back to a 1LE rubber tranny mount to help reduce some of that. With a decent sized cam, I don't think you are going to like the amount of vibrations transmitted.
