SLP Take off Carrier Is it 2 series or 3??

I have a 1994 Camaro which originally came with 3.23 and was not limited slip. I ordered a take off limited slip through SLP about 6 years ago(what I got was taken out of a stock Z28 before it was upgraded with the SS version). I ran the 3.23's for a while then upgraded to 3.73's about 5 years ago. The car seemed to run good but did have some whine. Now my ring and pinion are shot and I ordered a new set and got my mechanic to install it but said he cannot get the the 3.73 ring and pinion to set properly. I guess I must have a Series 2 carrier? if so is there anything I can get to get this combo to work properly on my carrier? Unless I need to order a set of 3.42's now? I can't take the 3.73's back as they are now used.

You can get a "spacer" kit that allows 3-series gears to be used in 2-series carriers.

But I'd make that is the problem before buying the spacer kit.

All you've told us is the 3-series gears you bought don't "set properly". Not real clear what that even means. Ask the mechanic what he means. If the face of the ring gear teeth is about 1/2" from the face of the pinion gear teeth, it would APPEAR that you have a 2-series carrier. But there is no way I can verify that from the limited, 2-word description of the problem. The "mechanic" is looking at it. Since he's supposed to be a mechanic, and he's apparently capable of doing a gear swap, what does he say the problem is?

If you have a 2-series carrier, and 3-series gears, you need a spacer kit. Go to Summit, and look for this part:

Motive Gear 075050 - Motive Gear Ring Gear Spacers

Yes the teeth are not lining up properly to get the right setting. he is asking me if my limited slip is a 2 series carrier which I think it is. I was one of the SLP take-off's from a few years back. Well if he can't set it properly it must be a 2 series.

Think about what you're asking. You have a carrier/posi that you've been running 2 sets of 3 series gears on for 6 years. Factory 3.23s are 3 series gears. Why would you now question the carrier?
If another set of 3 series gears won't install to the right pattern then it's the mechanic, faulty r&p, or not a 3 series gear set.

All those limited slip carriers sold by SLP as takeouts from SS convervsions were 3-series carriers. Only the carriers were change and the only gears offered were 3:23 (auto) & 3:42 (manual). If I remember those were a very good buy for $99.00.
