slipping clutch ?

i have a 97 z28 6-speed, last night i was racing my buddy and i went from 2nd back into 1st. after that it was kinda hard to get it back into 1st gear. ii drove for a little bit and it "worked itself out". but then this morning on the way to work i was in 4th gear and tried to accelerate and the rpm's shot way up and then it felt like it started to catch. i got on it through 1st felt ok. but then i got on the highway and is was in 6th and tried again to accelerate and the rpm's went to almost 5000 and when i got to work it smelled like clutch really bad. the question is, is my clutch shot or could it be something else, the car has 66,000 miles on it and is the original clutch. thanks for any information.

who won the race?

its wierd how the clutch started slipping rabidly over night, it usually takes like 2 weeks to fully slip like urs...
sounds like fluid to me,,but IF it is the original clutch at that milage, the clutch is probably going.
i found this is the group purchase section,,check this out

Mine is doing the same thing. I'll be crusing in 4th or 5th, then try to accelerate and the RPMs shoot up. I have to let up before it will grab.

Clutch slipping

yeah same thing happend to me, so im in the process of changing mine this week but im just putting a used stock clutch in, it has plenty of life but right now my car only has CAI, 160 thermo, hpp3 and a ****ty flowmaster muffler for now so the stage 2 will come later this summer when i get headers and maybe a cam, but yeah i was wondering the same thing because mine went out with in two days did the same thing as you discribed but im going to try to fix it myself

he said he went from 2nd to first, I think it would take a miracle to win that race...But when your racing, how did you manage to shove it back into first...usually it slides into 3rd rather naturally...I don't think it would hurt to replace your clutch, but it could be many other things wrong too, but it doesn't sound to bad..
