Skip Shift Eliminator
Also the skip shift was designed to get better gas milage during the EPA tests, which supposidly simulate real life driving, but ISN'T real life driving..
I doubt in real life, the skip shift is worth it.
Nice thing about using the $15 part is you protect the dongle connectors from the weather, and less of a chance of burning out the resistor.

I lived with the skip shift for a month. It usually got me in traffic when some person infront of me took off slow. Eliminating it made my car more enjoyable to drive.
Ya, i was developed for better milage, but since when does an engine operate a peak efficiency when it is being bogged. Keeping low RPM is good, but not when your engine bogs. Yet another EPA misconception. (another being that driving slower on the highway reduces emissions..well not when an engine has been designed to work most efficient at a given RPM and is geared to run that RPM at a higher speed..its all in the set up.) 4th was too high of a gear for the RPM that it makes you shift. If they had done a skip to 3rd I'd have left it alone.
As far as the spend your $ else where people, a buck (at Radio Shack), some duct tape and 10 minutes of time and your good to go. How many other things can ya do for your car that cheap?

There's at least one other place that sells these, but I can't remember who.
don't have any experience with this place, but heres the cheapest i've seen it:

What I am curious to know is whether or not anyone has decided to live with this feature despite the many post to get rid of it. Now that I know about shifting from first to fourth when this light comes on, I am trying to see if there is any advantage to this feature. To me it is uncomfortable since the car feels and sounds like its in the wrong gear.
I am also assuming that if I do decide to make the modications, I can still decide to jump to fourth whenever the light does come on. Is this true?

Going into 4th is something that doesnt bother me because if I wanted 2nd I would of been going faster.
Thats all there is to it.
Im confused as to what the skip shift does. Just got the maro and thought it was just a 'suggestion light'...suggesting to shift into a higher gear (3rd or 4th instead of 2nd) for better mpg. Does it take away performance or make the engine act a different way at lower rpms? Do you get better launches or better acceleration (i.e. 60' or 1/4 mile)? Help me out then flame me.

It's just a pain in the butt for guys like me that just like to gently shift thru the gears. If your getting on it then you're out of the rpm parameter and it doesn't activate.
With a skip shift module or resistor in place the light comes on but the soleniod is unhooked.

thanks for the info. One more ? tho. Its impossible to shift into second or third when the lights on? if so, thats bull.

I did notice something weird on that page, though. In the info section for the skip shift eliminator, this is what it says:
Applications: 6-speed only
93 - 02 Camaro Z28/SS LT1/LS1
93 - 97 Firebird-Trans Am LT1/LS1
92 - 03 Corvette (incl. Z06)
93 - 03 Dodge Viper RT/GTS/ACR
2003+ Ford Mustang Cobra
Is that right?? Do the new Cobra and the Viper have a skip-shift feature? I've never heard of that before...
is that performance module any good on that cali performance website? I have a hypertech but it doesnt really seem like its doing all that much for me...came with the car. I dont know if it did anything with my top speed bc I have only got her up to 135 and didnt try to go any faster. Keep the hypertech and learn how to use it? Or buy this performance module and get some added hp?
btw, the previous owner may have already screwed around with it and got everything working to optimal performance, but maybe not.
thanks

its not a performance module, it blocks the skip shift silenoid to keep skip shift from coming on. I've heard of some chips disabling skip shift as well. I prefer the module. Dealers dont even notice it in there. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the viper and cobra have it too. AS stated before, GM only put it on there for emissions (thats why its so easy to disable: ie resistor). Why would the viper and cobra not be hard on emissions as well?
