SImple 10 bolt question

I have searched but not found an answer,

What is the stock 10 bolt width on my 97 and also that of a third gen 10 bolt? Many say there is a 3 inch difference but I don't know/can't find the starting point.

Thanks for the help.

what are you trying to do?

I swapped a moser 9" for a 3rd gen into a 4th gen sat. night and used the 3rd gen wheels, a 10" prostar with a 5.50" BS it worked perfect, no clearance issues at all, looks really good.

moser or strange can tell you the exact dimensions but I thing it is 1.75" shorter per side for the 3rd gen

This is actually for a budget scratch build model a roadster project. I just know everyone hear has always been helpful and might know the answer. Nothing to do directly with F-bodies other than getting the rear end out of one.

I don't have an accurate way to measure one.....you want the axle flange to axle flange? I know moser has the dimensions somewhere, might be in the print catalog they send. I will see if I can find anything.

I am looking for inside brake brackets length or wheel mount to wheel mount and I can measure from there. I would appreciate the help.

Strange has the stock dimensions on their website. Unfortunately the little blueprint is getting fuzzy from being copied so many times in the .pdf format.

The disc brake 4th Gen rear shows (as clearly as I can make out from an older copy of it) the distance from the centerling of the pinion shaft to the wheel mounting surface of the axle flange as 32.36". That would make the width 64.72" flange-to-flange. They show the 3rd Gen as 30.86" per side, or 61.72" flange-to-flange. That makes the 3rd Gen 3" narrower according to Strange, but some 3rd Gen owners claim they have measured the difference as 4" narrower.

This is old.. may be unrelated but I NEVER found the below info anywhere.. all I found was people talking about brake caliper and rotor misfits... so I bought an LS1 axle for my LT1.... it didnt have the brakes so I had to use my LT1 brakes on the new LS1 axle.... NO NO NO they are not compatible, the LT1 and LS1 axle shafts are about 1/18 to 1/16 different in length, just enough to confuse the shjt out of you, the housings, bearings, spider gears are exactly the same.

All 4th gen axle housings are infact the exact same dimenstions, LT1's and LS1's use different length axles..

That means axle brake mounts are the same but wheel mount to wheel mount are different between 4th gen LT1 and LS1 axles.

SAME HOUSING - means you can swap axles and brakes... just keep LT1 axles with LT1 brakes/mounts and LS1 Brake/Mounts/axles together when you swap... if you have the entire axle (LS1 or LT1 brakes + axle assembled) then all you have to worry about is the parking brake really.

The difference in the axles and brakes have been discussed many times, here. Basically, you can use any 93-02 housing (since they are the same length), but you must use LT1 brakes/axles together and LS1 brakes/axles together. You can't mix them.
