Should I rebuild?

I need some advice guys. I am seriously considering purchasing a torque converter for my TA. I want to buy between the 2800-3200 stall range and what I need to know is wheteher or not I should rebuild my tranny. My tranny it still running good, well it at least appears to be, and has approx. 72500 miles on it. The car will be my daily driver as well so that must be taken into consideration. The car has a good amount of bolt-on modifications including gears, headers and 17x11s with 315 Nitto DRs. I have heard so many opinions on whether I should rebuild or not but I am just looking for more opinions. What should I do, rebuild or not?

One of the issues is do you have anyone able to do a competent rebuild? Some of the worst ripoffs are in the tranny rebuilding area. It takes knowledge, and great attention to detail. Given the brutal price shopping by most consumers, there are not many good re-builders out there.

I'd say if it's working well now, leave it alone.

If it ain't broken...or slipping in your case...

Do make sure you get an oil cooler along with your TC. This will be especially important since you're a daily driver and help to prolong the life of your transmission...

if you've been nice to ur tranny, then it'll be good for about 160k miles, so why bother! go indulge in a tc...although, that will make ur tranny die FASTER! rock and a hard place, i know.

If I were to put the stall and tranny cooler at this point in time, when do you guys think it should die out? What would you all do if you were in my place?

I was in your place and I got a PI Vigilante 2800 stall along with the biggest oil cooler I could find! No problems whatsoever and I just turned 90k miles.

What's the point in 'playing it safe' until your transmission starts slipping? If it's going to go out at some point, might as well have it go out in style with a decent TC

If it was me and the tranny was out anyway and I had the money to do the rebuild then I would.
I would also beef up the internals a bit so it can handle the HP.
From what I have seen the 4L60E lasts behind a stock LT1 pretty decently but start adding a few bolt ons and the tranny goes south pretty quick, it did with mine and a few friends around KC.

Faceless, and all who replied, thanks for the advice.

Faceless, how much did the 2800 stall help you out? Was the car totally different after the TQ install?

When it all comes down to it, I have to decide between the TQ converter or beefing up the suspension. I have to decide though real soon.
