Short Shifters
Short Shifters
Are these a good mod for these cars, does it really make the shifts that much smoother, or would i be better off putting my money towards something that will actually make some power?
If you are still using the stock shifter, its a great improvement. Ive used the B&M Ripper and the SLP short throw which I still have. The B&M was better than stock, but I found the throws still too long and the height of the stick too high. The SLP is a sweet shifter. It does not come with the stick, so I used "Lou's Short Stick", which is about 2 inches shorter than stock. You could use the stock stick if you want. The throws are half as long as stock and very precise. Awesome Mod. Some guys on here run thr PRO 5.0 but ive never tried it.
The SLP shifter is almost exactly the same as the "factory Hurst " that came in SS's and WS6's, also offered as an option on the LS1 cars from the factory. The Hurst "competition plus" is a short shifter but it has an akward bend in the stick which angles toward the driver. Ive used it, didnt like it.
Pro 5.0
I think you can actually shift faster with the short throw, not sure how much of an advantage that gives tho.
I for one like mine because i dont rev out 2nd and jam it back into 1st like i did a few times with the factory "sloppy six"
Its probebly one of those things that "should" be done eventually in a modded 6speed.
