Shifting Hard and Small Leak (auto)

I'm new to the Camaro world so I'm not sure what my stock trans is besides automatic. It's shifting hard from 1st to 2nd. It could give whiplash if I got it up to 5-6000rpm. Other gears shift fine.

Last month my trans mount split in two and was knocking the floor so I switched it and I noticed that there is a sensor with what looks like a plastic plug. This is located at the end of the trans before connection with the driveshaft.

It looks to be leaking from the sensor area but my fluid hasn't dropped conciderably. (checked @ idle after running through all gears) Fluid was changed May09.

Is my trans going out? I read that it might be the fuel pump causing it but I have my doubts. It wasn't in this website either. What ATF is recommended? What is that sensor for? Thanks for the help!

We have a forum specifically for drivetrain problems. I'll move the post there for you. There are several very knowledgable members and vendors that can help you out. The forum you posted in is only for "engine" related topics.

first things first you need to get it scanned for codes. Even if the check engine light is not on. Do that and post your results. 1870 code will cause what your describing.
